Outdoor Swimming Trips at Adis Buan

The young boy is forced to pack up for the trip, while the adults are still busy gossiping and drinking beer (assuming that the place is not far). The place is about 30 km from Kuching Town, which is in a small Land Dayak village called Kampung Singai Segong. It is called Adis Buan.

We arrived there in the evening and it’s seemed like not many people are there on that particular day. Maybe, most of them have gone back. Who would be around when it is getting darker?

Then again, we still managed to enjoy swimming in the cold water for almost an hour. Maybe it's good that not many people are around, we can have the whole river for ourselves. So people, next time do come late to the site.

The hut is to be rented out for the visitors. It can accommodate a small family and partially furnished with basic facilities. However, you can illegally bring your whole family members from your grandparents to your grandkids as the owner would normally not around. Then, it would be worth paying for.

The owner can normally be met at this place. Visitors are expected to pay RM $3.00 per person, except for small kids. So, do not hesitate to bring every single kid that you have at home, bring also your neighbors’ kids as well. Your neighbors will bless you for your kindness.

The resting hut is built similar to the architectural design of the Land Dayak Communal Building the 'Baruk', but do not worry there are no skulls and offerings hanging on the roof.

The evening scenery on our way back home is partially beautiful. The background at the back had almost disappeared and unseen by bare eyes. So, next time do come late and bring along your fishing equipments and torch light for illegal fishing trips at the river.

A Unique BAU Town

The Buddhist Temple is right in the middle of Bau Town, along the busy traffic and part of the town that is congested by the local folks. The temple has become the ‘roundabout’ for the motorists as they have to circle the temple in order to reach their destination. The Buddhists have to pray in public as there is no privacy at all. I hope none of them pray in their car along the roadside.

The chanting prayer is played all days and nights on a recorded device. I guess most of the town folks staying nearby might have memorized the chanting, even for those who are not Buddhist. Not forgotten those who are drunk in the nearby kopi-tiam.

During weekdays at the evening, Bau Street seemed extremely quiet. Dead Town they called it. Wait till you are here on weekend. Bau Town is all packed up with people heading to and coming back from the Grand Bazaar at Serikin. There are tourists all the way from Kelantan to Johor heading to Serikin, buying goods that are also available at their own backyard. I guess they wanted the thrill of getting the experience of being at the border of Malaysia and Indonesia. Let us bless our neighbor, Indonesia with more prosperity.

Gawai Dayak Events

The kids were forced to participate in the balloon blowing competition. It’s the first time and of course they loved it. Each one of them wanted to win. The dads were betting on their kid, while the moms were seen running away from their kids~ taking refuge from the exploded balloons.

Guess what! We have Syed Ferradino (a celebrity and TV presenter of the program 'In Person') as our emcee. We are lucky that he is here with one of the family member for the Gawai. At least we have free and unpaid ‘hosting’ services from the experienced presenter. He does not have the chance to refuse as we might have chased him away.

Then, we have the Drag Queen competition.

Guess, which one is the prettiest? None. They will not get any attention from the boys’ fan out there. Maybe they should try the prison. The inmates would be more appreciative of guys like these. Out of pity, one of them was awarded as winner.

While others were busy with the events, the rest of us were busy finishing the barbecued delicacies. We left others with the leftovers. Pity them!
