Mother In-Law's Tongue

They are actually plants which can be seen at almost most of the Bornean garden.  The plants are believed to have the benefits in curing flu, cough, bronchitis, swollen, snake bite and as hair tonic.

The Bornean called it Lidah Jin which meant 'Monster's Tongue', while the English's called it 'Mother's In-Law Tongue'. Why so? The Bornean, they scared of their in laws. That's why they did not dare to name anything of their in laws. However, the English they don't care. According to an Anonymous Source, the name was given due to the nagging attitudes of the in laws. Maybe most of the English’s in laws are the nagging types. I guess the scientific names would sound better.

The Hottest Borneo's Cranberries

Just to show the size of our 'Borneo's Canberries'.

Aren't they looked like the American Cranberries? Well, actually they are not. They are actually local Bornean Chilies. Round in shape, about the same size of a cranberry but it's isn't sweet, it's hot. The chillies would be suitable as decoration for a fine Asian's Delicacies, but not for the Westerner's meals. Imagine if we served them on the dining table of a Typical American's Restaurant. The customers would mistake it as the cranberries and they will be running wild for the water.

The Rock of Luck

Where should you go to and pray if you wish to strike lottery?

You have to drive all the way to Tatau, a small town between Sibu and Bintulu in order to reach 'Batu Katak'.  Batu Katak is believed to have the power to grant people wishes. The rock had become extremely popular among the lottery punters. They would bring some offerings like chicken to be slaughtered at the rock and the rice wine 'Tuak'. If you wish to go there, do not go empty handed as the rock had been so used of generous visitors. Might as well you stay at home or visit 'Paul the Octopus'. Even Paul is being bribed with lavish offerings.

A small hut had been built to shelter the rock from the sun and rain. It was souvenir by a generous visitor who had made it big after visiting the 'Batu Katak'. If the rock be moved like in Texas, it might have been sheltered in a luxurious mansion by the regular casino goers.

The rock is a must place to be for those who are ambitious and passionate in changing their less fortunate life. Good Luck Fella Gamblers.

The Birds' Plantation Project

There's a jungle UP there.

Its looks like an ordinary garden, right. Well, you're damn wrong. The plants actually grew on top of the roof of a three storey building. It is believed that the birds had flown there and pooped the seeds of the plants that they have eaten on the roof. Somehow, the seeds managed to grow. It had been the sanctuary of other birds ever since.

Maybe, it would be a good idea for the environmentalist to consider using the birds in replanting trees at the places that are not reachable by human. It would cost them almost nothing as they would only need to feed the birds with the trees’ seeds and sent them to the places that they needed to replant the trees.

I'm willing to catch those birds. However, it's not going to be cheap as it's not easy to catch them. I'll be a filthy rich bird catcher.

A Model in the Making

The kid had become addicted to photo shooting. He can’t help himself when he saw the sight of a camera. He has this instant response to it. The moment you lifted it up, the posing will begin. Maybe he had been abused by the father who loved to take photo and often made him the ‘model’ for his shots. Then again, maybe it is not a bad idea after all. We are having a future ‘model’ in the making.

Karaoke Competition at School

The emcee officiates the karaoke competition. He then introduces the line of volunteered participants and another line of forced participants. Before proceeding with the competition, he first explains on the criteria taken into consideration for the evaluations.

One of the judges shows his talent and how the participants should perform on stage. Then, he got overexcited and refused to go down. We have to drag him down from the stage. He had proved himself an excellent singer. Therefore, he is more than qualified to judge the competition.

All of the participants are girls. Boys do not sing, not immediately after their puberty. They will only start singing after having dozens of kids and divorcing their fourth wives.

The three judges seemed extremely focused in their evaluation. The first judge is busy calculating his next month expenses and the other one is busy drafting on the landscape of his backyard. The third judge is still dreaming of his dream to be in the limelight. They are actually expected to judge on the vocal, pronunciation and showmanship of the participants as the evaluations are more on the participants' competency of the language. The competition is actually organized by the school’s English Department as its annual activity, not so much on the students' singing talent and ability. Hopefully, none of the participants had not waste their time and money in attending singing class at Yamaha Music School.

The girl won the competition, though she had actually made up her decision to participate in the competition at the last minute. She felt that her heart will go on with the sunken Titanic, if she did not join the competition (adapted from Celine Dion). She was loved by the judges but hated by the fellow participants.

In conclusion, the competition had received encouraging support from the students. Most of the male friends got hysterical and have to be sent back to class to be taught on morality. Well Done, Buddies!

Nostalgic 'Kolok Mee'

The ‘Kolok Mee’ is introduced to me by my father. He loved it so much, that often we would stop there for lunch after school. Back then, my father could not afford to treat me and my siblings to 'KFC'. Hence, the 'Kolok Mee' has become our only favorite food. Then again, it is not so much about the noodle. Maybe more on the nostalgia of time spent with my father during my school days.

You all should try it for yourself. The noodle is served in a plate, not a bowl. It looks more luxurious in such a way. The quantity of the noodle is not so much compare to any other typical stalls selling ‘Kolok Mee’. For me, a food should not be served too much in order to enjoy the actual taste of it. The quality of the taste is more important than the quantity of it.

The shop is located somewhere at the old town of Kota Sentosa aka 'Batu 7'. It is called Nam Hoi Restaurant. I promised that you won't regret it. If you do, why bother as you will only spend RM2.50 for the 'Kolok Mee'.
